Gift certificates can be one of the best ways of bringing in new massage clients. When prospective clients receive your gift certificate from a friend or loved one, they know that your services are highly valued by someone they know and trust.
It is when recipients actually redeem their certificates, however, that gift certificate sales pay off. That's when you get to demonstrate your abilities to new people in your community. Even better, it gives you a chance to establish regular clients who may provide you income - and even referrals - for years to come.
1. Post "Gift Certificates Available" posters with your contact information both in your office and in other appropriate places like health clubs, senior centers or salons. Does a client or neighboring business have a wall or window to hang your poster?
2. Place gift certificate samples in your office where your clients can look at them. Have them displayed on the counter where your clients pay you so they will be reminded at that time.
3. If you're giving a presentation or attending a gathering of health care practitioners or business people, bring along gift certificates, display them if appropriate and be prepared to sell them!
4. Mail postcards or send emails announcing gift certificate availability before the winter holidays, Valentine's and Mother's Day as reminders.
5. Let your clients order gift certificates with a check or credit card via phone, email or through your website. Then mail gift certificates back to your clients or directly to the recipients, or make them convenient to pick up after work or on the weekend.
6. Make the gift certificates delightful in themselves. Chose colorful, eye-catching certificates and envelopes that will make the giver feel proud and the receiver feel even more special. Attaching bows, stickers or small ornaments. Put together gift baskets that includes gift certificates plus additional small gifts such as candles, tea bags or aromatherapy products.
7. Stuff the envelope with a client education handout or massage brochure or on a topic that targets the interests of the recipient. Information on stress would be appropriate for almost everybody. Is the recipient male, female, an athlete or a senior? Choose a brochure or other information that specifically shows how your work can help them.
8. Instead of a brochure, include a self-addressed, stamped postcard with the gift certificate. Say something like, "You've received a wonderful gift. I look forward to meeting you!" Include a checklist for receiving more information that includes, say, your newsletter or brochure. Encourage them to mail the postcard back.
9. Give recipients an incentive to use the certificate sooner rather than later. For example, include a coupon with a Christmas gift certificate that offers an additional gift of a Valentine's goodie basket or an opportunity to enter their name in a drawing for a free spa treatment - if they book before the end of February.
10. Use the expiration line to extend your good will. Some states like California have passed laws against using expiration dates. Whether or not this is the case in your state, write a message on the expiration line such as, "There's no expiration on the gift of good health."
Always make gift certificates available to your clients. Keep reminding clients you have them. And do your best to get those that receive certificates into your office, a result that can pay off in repeat business for years to come.
